Cowin antenna’s waterproof rubber bluetooth antenna provides a solution for Honeywell’s communication in the field of personal protection

Case study: Cowin antenna's waterproof rubber bluetooth antenna provides a solution for Honeywell's communication in the field of personal protection

Customer background:

Honeywell International (Honeywell International) is a diversified high-tech and manufacturing company with a turnover of more than 30 billion US dollars and a Fortune 500 company.

Antenna performance requirement:

The antenna has waterproof and anti-ultraviolet functions, and the receiving signal distance is 15M. The antenna size does not exceed 30*10MM.

The challenge:

Protect the hearing of the staff in a strong noise environment without affecting their reception of normal instructions. The console staff sends instructions to operators wearing protective earmuffs through desktops or handhelds, and each operator can receive instructions at the same time. Connectivity is the cornerstone of a protective earmuff solution. Wi-Fi and cellular technologies mean operations need connectivity more than ever, and to ensure the protective earmuffs stay truly connected with reliable real-time information, Honeywell needed high-performance Bluetooth and cellular antennas

Problem Description:

The complex working environment plays a vital role in the impact of wireless signal transmission and reception. The small size, long-distance transmission and reception of signals and waterproof and UV-resistant functions are a test of the engineer's all-round ability.

Solution:

1. For Bluetooth to achieve long-distance transmission and reception, it is necessary to increase the power and the size of the antenna, which will inevitably reduce the power consumption of the device. A large loss of device power will directly affect the production progress and experience of the staff.

2. The engineer team actively communicated with Honeywell product project research and development for many times, and finally set the receiving distance index as 10M according to the actual use needs.

3. According to the size of the antenna not exceeding 30*10MM, the engineer chooses the helical loading antenna to match the resonant frequency, and the dark room test reaches up to 3DB gain and 60% efficiency.

4. The antenna product is filled with waterproof glue to ensure that the internal structure is not affected by rainy weather.

5. The plastic shell is molded with UV agent, and there is no abnormal deformation and cracking after the high and low temperature cycle test of - 40 ˚C ~ + 80 ˚C for 80 hours.

6. The overall size of the final antenna combination is 28*10MM long, and it has passed the Honeywell test and acceptance.

Economic benefits:

The customer's final product has been finalized and final preparations are being made for the later launch, which is expected to go on sale in March 2023.
